Project Objectives
Development of several dashboards in Power BI for the HR controlling department of a large German logistics company. Although the customer had in-house expertise in developing visualizations in Power BI, additional support was required to calculate complex DAX formulas. They also needed to connect to HR systems and update the dashboards automatically, rather than manually using Excel. The customer wanted to actively involve employees in the creation of the Power BI dashboard in order to achieve a learning effect.
Our Approach
The project was divided into four work phases:
- Data preparation: Development of the connection to the upstream systems and cleansing and transformation of the data for Power BI.
- Data modelling: Calculation of complex KPIs, e.g. employee utilisation for different locations.
- Visualisation: Development of dashboards with visualisations and KPIs.
- Deployment: Automation of the weekly update process and allocation of access rights.
Walecon developed the key concepts for each work package in advance, which were then implemented in Power BI or Azure together with the client during workshops.

Project results
The new HR reporting received very positive feedback from the Management Board and was a significant improvement on the previous, error-prone reports. The customer's employees who worked on the project operationally benefited from the training effect.
